My Favourite Places To Visit In New Zealand – Pt1

Many times when on tour I am asked by my passengers  as to my favorite places to visit in New Zealand. This is a very hard question as I, like them, am always discovering new and exciting places. I also feel that your decisions are affected by your mood and the current season etc.

I think I will divide this post into two parts.  Part One will be the North Island and Part Two the South Island.

So here we go:-

Got to start with the Hokianga Harbour and the two small settlements of Omapere and Opononi, both are right on the waters edge and over look some of  New Zealands largest sand dunes. I have driven through there many times and when on tour stay at the Copthorne Hotel in Omapere. Next summer I am taking the motor home up there and spending at least a couple of nights there.

Then I have to say the Coromandel Peninsular has got to be one of my top favorites, particularly the Eastern Coast with places like Cooks Beach, Hot Water Beach and Hahei.  At Hot Water beach you can dig a hole in the sand at low tide and create your own natural geothermal spa pool, awesome. Hahei and Cathedral Cove have spectacular snorkeling and was one of the sites that The Chronicles of Nania was filmed.

In fact all down that East coast are little spots I enjoy staying at. Bowentown at the end of Waihi beach, Mt Maunganui and Papamoa.

Moving back to the West coast and a real big one for me is Raglan, renowned for its surfing, I am not a surfer but just love sitting up on top the cliffs enjoying the awesome sunsets and having dinner in our motor home. The township it self is delightful with a hotel, cafes and all sorts of shops. In fact we normally park over night at the Raglan Club and then explore during the day.

Well there you go some of my favorite places to visit in New Zealand in the North Island. Please come over and go and explore them for yourself.
