If one of the things to do in New Zealand for you is to go on a campervan holiday this post will be of assistance.

The condition of the majority of the roads in New Zealand are excellent, traffic volumes are very low, especially in the South Island, compared to many other countries in the world. Explosive scenery around every corner and plenty of thrill seeking adventures to participate in, why not have your campervan holidays in New Zealand?

The relative safety of our roads, good signage and comparatively short distances between available overnight stops truly enhances your touring holidays in New Zealand.
We drive on the left hand side of the road unlike countries such as American, Canada Europe etc who drive on the right hand side. This can initially cause a few anxious moments, however there is a few things you can do to help combat this. To also help you with our driving laws I recommend that you pick up a copy of The Official New Zealand Road Code 2010 [Paperback], see also the recommended section.

The First step is to establish an itinerary for your campervan holidays in New Zealand. In choosing an itinerary, bear in mind some of these points:-

  • Initial entry point to your campervan holiday in New Zealand.
  • Exit point of your campervan holiday in New Zealand.
  • Number of days available.
  • Location of sights or activities that you absolutely want to see or do.
  • The location of family and friends you need to visit.
  • Time of year you are intending traveling to New Zealand, possible road closures, summer v’s winter etc.
  • Your budget. (Determines the type of camp sites you will stay in or whether or not you eat out more often or have a couple of luxury nights in a hotel.)

The second step is to establish the size of vehicle you require for your campervan holiday in New Zealand, how many people you have to accommodate for.

  • What drivers license you require.
  • What experience you have had of driving larger vehicles.

The all important step and question is, “Who do you hire from?”

  • There are many many campervan companies in New Zealand offering a wide range of vehicles for different needs. There are full blown, multi berth, totally self contained vehicles right through to the typical backpacker vans that have limited space and facilities. The choice is truly yours.
  • If you belong to a campervan or motor home association at home it may be worth checking to see if they have ties with New Zealand associations and have an exchange program operating.

The next planning step is what to do and places to stay overnight at a lot of this is covered in the itinerary planning stage.

  • Pre-buying tickets to attractions, events and accommodation can often save you money and be one less expense you need to worry about whilst traveling.
  • This and other web sites also have a number of pages dedicated to helping you with some of these issues.

The second to last step

  • BOOK IT….

Last planning step of your campervan holiday in New Zealand.

  • DO IT..

Have a great campervan holiday in New Zealand, drive safely, enjoy all that New Zealand has to offer please keep in touch by way of our blog and above all please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of help.
