A Holiday in New Zealand A Brief Overview Of The North Island

In this post I will give you a brief overview of items to consider when contemplating a Holiday in New Zealand. So many times I get asked what to do, where to go and where to start etc.

Well I guess one of the best places to start your holiday in New Zealand is Auckland, and whilst not the capital city, it is the busiest and biggest city. Most international flights arrive in Auckland and ALL of the rental car companies and campervan/motor home hire companies have offices in or near the Auckland International Airport. Things To Do In New Zealand Balloons Over Waikato

Here is a  collection of videos from the recent Balloons over Waikato event held in April 2011. This annual event attracts visitors and competitors, not only from all over New Zealand but also from all over the world.

The Waikato is the heart of dairy farming in New Zealand and some of the most expensive farm land can be found here. Hamilton, the city at the centre of the Waikato, gets a lot of international attention, not only for the Balloons over Waikato event, but from a number of other events that the City of Hamilton hosts.

  • The farming field days trade show
  • The round of the Australian super car V8′s motor race series
  • International rugby matches
  • International cricket matches
  • International netball matches
  • and a number of other events.

Hamilton and the Balloons over Waikato event is certainly one of the things to do in New Zealand.

This was a bit of a spur of the moment thing for us and we decided to head off down to Hamilton as soon as we finished work. As members of the NZMCA (New Zealand Motor Caravan Association)  we decided to go to the rally they organise. The location is not far from Innes Common where the balloons lift off. The balloonists have an early predawn start preparing for the mornings flights. Read the rest of this entry »
